Hi, your current setup is an i5-6500. You're considering switching to an AMD CPU and have looked at a few options. The Ryzen 5 3600 with an Asus ROG Strix X470-F Gaming was on your list, but you also found the B450 Tomahawk Max as a solid choice for Ryzen 3rd gen and more affordable. You were thinking about buying a Ryzen 7 3700X with the B450 for around +70€, which seems like a smart move given the price. However, you're seeking advice to ensure it's future-proof. Since you use the PC mainly for coding and occasionally play AAA games, you want something that balances performance and value.

The setup featuring the R7 3700X with the B450 Tomahawk Max is superior. This board can handle even higher models like the R9 3900X.

Based on what I remember from the x470 and b450 schematics, the main trade-offs involve losing some flexibility with multiple M.2 drives while keeping the GPU’s PCIe speed intact. Some boards won’t support high-speed drives safely, but the Tomahawk series handles that better.
