I understand the risks of a simple password. I’m only focusing on setting a four-digit code. The interface isn’t cooperating, and the terminal commands aren’t working as expected.

Confirming your setup: have you already activated the root account via "sudo passwd root," or are you referring to using sudo in general? By default, the root account on PopOS is disabled.

Begin with a simple command, then elevate privileges. Enter the desired username and set the password as needed. The root account will take precedence over any existing limitations.
