Hello, welcome to the forum! I’m just starting out and would appreciate your advice on upgrading from the 7700K to an AMD CPU. My current setup includes a Z270 gaming pro carbon 2070 super gaming Z trio with 32GB RAM, 3200Mhz RAM, a 750W power supply, and an 80+gold PSU. Any suggestions would be helpful!
The processor could face performance issues soon. How much would you consider investing in an upgrade?
Are there any performance issues you're experiencing that justify the investment? If not, your spending seems unnecessary. From a gaming standpoint, a 7700k isn't offering significant benefits right now. You'll likely find it costly to achieve meaningful improvements.
Certainly, it might be wise to prepare now for potential future requirements.
The idea of preparing ahead of time often creates confusion. The notion of future-proofing doesn’t really fit here—it’s more of a contradiction. We’re dealing with different stages of technology, from yesterday’s systems to what’s coming soon. Most innovations are still evolving, and what seems cutting-edge today might be outdated tomorrow. Generational shifts usually bring progress, but they also mean you’ll need updates to keep up. Doing things before you require them can lead to outdated performance, even if the hardware is still solid. My current setup handles 1440p well without major issues. Switching to a newer system will likely improve my experience, though the gains might not be huge considering its age. You’re ahead by three generations, so the difference will be noticeable. It’s your choice how you spend your money, but I think you’ll save around $800 while still getting better results.
I accepted the reality that the improvement would be modest and not impressive. After reviewing some benchmarks, I’m confident the 7700K still covers my needs for everyday gaming. This might prompt me to consider an upgrade later, but I’m not sure it’s worth the investment. While I’m spending my own money, your feedback has definitely helped me reconsider before making a decision.
In Sweden it might cost a bit under 200€, which would mean the upgrade would be around 130€
