I believed the offer was that if your system ran Windows 8, you’d see a pop-up for a free upgrade to Windows 10, but I never received it. If you’re planning a new build, could you consider saving money by choosing Windows 8 instead? After all, upgrading should be affordable.

You should have at least 8.1 to trigger the popup.

I experienced the same problem. Ensure all Microsoft updates are installed; the upgrade window will appear. It took several hours for everything to complete, but it succeeded. You might be prompted to reserve your Windows 10 copy, which is recommended so you can update later.

Only Windows 7 and 8.1 are supported, and there’s no free upgrade available for 8.

7/8.1 subscribers receive the complimentary enhancement. Switch from version 8 to 8.1, ensure all updates are applied, and it will appear—then you can move to 10.
