Upcoming Arc GPUs will support AV1 hardware encoding and decoding. This feature will be available on Intel CPUs starting from the 14th Gen and Meteor Lake platforms. You won't need a -F SKU CPU when creating a NAS with complete AV1 encoding/transcoding. These processors could also serve well as a standalone streaming PC. This is convenient!
This information comes from Tom'sHardware, but the details are limited. I’d check Intel’s official site to verify any specifics before accepting claims. The original story claimed the MSI B550M Mortar Max would include a clock generator under $180, but that never materialized—it was just misleading information. The boards are now available, and none currently have this component installed. I’d also note that purchasing at least four units for prebuilds would have been a practical move.
In the end, everything will become av1 encoding once it proves beneficial
