I was assembling the computer and performed a testing run, everything seemed normal. After placing all parts inside the case, I linked the case fans to the motherboard's RGB pin. However, smoke was escaping from a chip labeled AURA, and the RGB display stopped functioning while the fans began to spin. I temporarily detached the fans from the built-in controller and connected them directly to the motherboard fan header to get them moving. I have two main concerns: first, after burning the AURA chip, can I still get the RGB to work without it being addressable? Second, how would I confirm if the chip was completely damaged, even though my system operates normally and games run smoothly? Case: ASUS TUF Tempered Glass Gaming GT301 Mid-Tower Compact Case for ATX Motherboard. Motherboard: Asus Prime Z690-P Wifi D4. Attached is the photo of the burned chip (InkedIMG_20230129_215742_LI.jpg).
You could get an aRGB controller where you just push a button to select different presets, although considering they somehow fried the AURA chip I'd be wondering if there is a fault in one of the fans. There's really no way to know if its broken anything else on the board, but I think the odds are reasonable that the chip was the weakest link so probably hasn't. I'd certainly be contacting ASUS and wanting an explanation of what went wrong and what they are going to do about it. Although I'm a little puzzled at the fan controller not working either.
