Audio problems Issues with sound quality or playback.
Hello everyone. Over the last few months I've faced a persistent sound problem that seems to have no clear cause or fix. It occurs almost nonstop throughout the day, though its intensity varies. It's mainly described as crackling or popping sounds, and during online calls on Discord or Teamspeak, the audio often sounds robotic. I upgraded my system about a year ago, and now it's been roughly four months since I first noticed the issue—it has only gotten worse. The sound is present with all output devices, even when connected to other systems. I attempted a clean OS install (W10), upgraded to W11, turned off the ftpm in BIOS, and disabled the built-in sound card after purchasing a PCIe sound card, but nothing helped. Even moving the sound card or swapping it for an NVMe unit didn't resolve the problem. I also disabled all audio devices except the main sound card without any improvement. As a final attempt, I took the PC to a friend in another city, thinking about "drity electricity," but that didn’t work either. I disassembled and reassembled the entire system. For the past month, my motherboard has been in RMA status, but it was rejected with the note "No issue found/manifested." *At the time of the RMA attempt, the BIOS was updated; upgrading it didn’t solve the problem.* My build details are: ASUS TUF GAMING X570 PLUS, AMD R5 5600G GPU, ASUS DUAL RTX3070, 2x16GB Kingston FURY 3200MT/s RAM (slots A2/B2), OS NVMe 250GB Samsung 960 PRO (installed below the CPU), an ASUS STRIX SOAR PSU (Evolveo G650, 5-6 years old), monitors including WQHD Phillips and a 2.5" FHD Samsung SSD, plus two 1TB HDDs (one new, one older). I also have a recording of the issue.* The audio-visual sync issues started around when I began recording via nVidia SW. Thank you for your help.
To confirm it's a hardware issue, I'd install a live Linux environment and see if the same problem persists.
Sure, I tried to rephrase your message. The Kena recording is meant just to show the problem, it’s visible even without playing YT or anything else. Sounds like a homework assignment—so it should be part of the task, not just a general issue with all the software installed.
The software comes with drivers and a full stack for audio on Windows. Because Windows 11 builds on existing systems rather than being created from scratch, it may share similar components that are causing issues. The best solution is to try an alternative environment, such as Linux. Simply create a USB stick with the latest version, load it, and test it for a short time. No installation is required, and if it doesn’t work, you can switch to another distribution. This approach is straightforward and won’t affect your main system unless the problem persists. Watching YouTube videos without sound issues suggests the hardware is fine, while persistent problems point to an issue with Windows itself.
Hello, I'm wrapping up this discussion. I discovered the problem after several restarts and rebuilding the system. After sending in a return merchandise authorization for both the MOBO and GPU, it became clear that the CPU was the root cause. I wasn't prepared for this because removing the GPU and testing on the integrated graphics of the 5600G worked initially, but once the GPU was reinstalled, the issue reappeared. Then, when I upgraded to a 5800X3D, the problem vanished entirely.
