Hi there! MSI Z690 i512600k RTX3070TUF Sound Blaster X AE5 Plus with Logitech Z906 speakers is the setup I’m using now. After four months of new gear, I finally figured out a fix after trying many other solutions on my previous rig (Z97 i54690k). It was surprisingly simple once I remembered the right steps. In UEFI/BIOS, go to the PCIE section and switch the M2 port and PCIE port to auto mode. Set them to GEN4 and GEN5 for maximum bandwidth—this cleared all issues. Honestly, I haven’t seen this exact fix before, but it worked perfectly. Have fun!

On a previous setup it wouldn't affect the board, but it could be a problem with the sound card.

From my perspective, any problem that restricts data bandwidth and increases latency is concerning. For instance, another sign was my RAM under XMP showing high latency scores—37 or 40—where it should be 20 or lower (DDR4). This issue occurred with both 4-core and 10-core setups, and it’s easy to overlook because those configurations are set to auto-detect. Perhaps they assume the right hardware, but it still acts as a bottleneck.

It’s interesting to note today the issue reappeared after adjusting the power plan to frugal. Once the computer woke up, it needed manual adjustment to the highest performance mode. The effect was noticeable, though... In my situation, quickly clicking the volume slider helped pinpoint the problem or sudden delays. I then checked Windows Defender settings and found a setting that displayed many processes interacting with defender features—such as ctf, allocations, and virtual memory usage set to constant relocation. Turning it off resolved the issue. This matches what happened on my previous PC, so I’m confident this was the root cause. I can’t explain the exact options, but I’ll leave the investigation to you.

The question refers to a specific setting within a defender character, likely from a game or simulation. It mentions a similar issue and difficulty locating the setting.
