Greetings, I want to share a perplexing issue I’m experiencing and hope some of you can offer guidance.

I’ve struggled for a while with noticeable mouse lag in games – it feels like my movements are sluggish, as if I’m controlling the cursor through a frozen surface. This problem extends to first-person shooters, where weapon changes and object targeting are noticeably slow. I’m part of a community discussing “mouse input lag,” where we’ve explored numerous solutions, and I’d like to detail what I've attempted.

I've experimented with several PC configurations, including my current setup: an i7 8700k processor and a GTX 1080ti with 16GB of 3000MHz memory. I've also used a 240Hz monitor and various mice, keyboards, and headsets (both USB and P2 connections). Furthermore, I've utilized a FURMAN power conditioner and a double-conversion UPS with a sinusoidal waveform.

Recently, while allowing my eight-year-old cousin to use my PC, I discovered a potential solution. When she played, I routed the game audio through a separate sound box connected directly to her wall outlet. After she finished, and I resumed using the PC, the lag vanished completely – it was as if nothing had been wrong. To investigate further, I set the sound box as my default audio device, and the lag disappeared instantly. The mouse became incredibly responsive, and games ran smoothly. Initially, I suspected a placebo effect, but after a week, the issue remained resolved with the sound box as the default. However, when I connected my HyperX Cloud 2 headset, the lag returned immediately.

I’ve tested various connections – bypassing the sound card entirely, using a P2 audio duplicator adapter, connecting the headset to the sound box and simultaneously to my PC, attempting connections through monitor audio ports, and trying different headsets. Even combining the sound box and headset outputs together resulted in the same lag. The problem disappears entirely only when I utilize the speakers as my default audio device. It’s almost like my PC actively resists headset connections. I enjoy using a headset for communication with online friends, but this persistent delay makes it frustrating.

Can anyone explain why this is happening? Should I explore a wireless headset, or would it be essentially the same as using a wired one?

Regarding the headsets you alluded to in your discussion, it appears you’ve primarily focused on the Hyper X Cloud II. Could you elaborate on any other audio devices you've employed? Furthermore, when initiating a thread concerning technical difficulties, it’s generally expected to provide your complete system configuration—specifically:

CPU:
Motherboard:
RAM:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
What is the age of your power supply unit?

Have you considered employing a separate sound card? It's possible that the sound card or chip itself is responsible for the problems you’re encountering.

Could you attempt to connect your headset into the port where you usually plug in speakers? (This assumes that you connect your headset either through USB or via the front audio connections.)

Greetings, I’ve experienced a persistent issue for two years and have experimented with numerous adjustments similar to yours. Recently, I also identified a connection between the problem and my headset. Have you discovered any resolution? I was considering purchasing a Hyperx Cloud 2 sound card, but your post suggests it won’t be helpful. I am presently using a Hyperx without an added sound card.

I've been searching for answers for quite some time now. I would appreciate it greatly if you could share details about your experience. Thank you very much!
