A fresh start brings unexpected challenges in the PC world. Recently, my computer decided to mute itself. I noticed the volume indicator appears when I tried to watch YouTube, but no sound comes through. It seems the only available connection is through the monitors. My new monitor arrived today with the model U2790VQ. It has built-in audio and stereo speakers. When connected, it automatically disconnected from the PC and went silent. I’m unsure what picture would clarify this. I clicked sound once, adjusted settings, but only my monitor speakers showed up—my regular audio port vanished. Now I just want to turn it off so I can use the original audio outlet again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I prefer the old way. Launch the start menu and press run. Enter "control" without quotes. Select the sound option and click it. A dialog will appear showing all available devices. Turn off anything you don’t need and set your primary sound device as the default.

Did you verify the connection points for the speakers on the computer?

That’s the setup—no connections to a monitor, only an HDMI link to the PC and a power cord. No audio components inside the computer either.

You're not crazy—audio can definitely come from a PC. It usually comes from the sound card or audio interface connected to the motherboard.

There aren't any other audio sources available. The monitor doesn't include built-in speakers, so you'll need to purchase ones separately.

The issue you're experiencing isn't unusual—some monitors include built-in volume controls, but the sound still doesn't come from the motherboard. The M.2 Pro B650-S with Wi-Fi does mention audio support, so it's possible the monitor lacks proper audio routing or the hardware isn't configured correctly. Check the monitor's manual or manufacturer website for audio specifications and ensure it matches your system requirements.
