Consider using Ubuntu or a lighter distribution. Maybe a 32-bit Linux OS works better. Check what settings were applied during the ISO flashing process.

It seems the system isn’t detecting the retina display. Since you haven’t installed Ubuntu yet, you’ll need to set up the correct display settings before proceeding.
