I recently recalled having an older 1st generation iPod Touch nearby, and I was curious about its functionality as an mp3 player. The issue is that it claims you must link it to iTunes to reinstall the operating system. I connected it and, of course, Apple’s own restore tool didn’t help. Instead, it offered the chance to use a PC file for restoration. I downloaded the ipsw file and attempted the restore process, but it still displays error code 5.

Consider testing a previous version of MacOS in a virtual machine to check for stability.
