I received an outdated laptop from my workplace, a Panasonic CF-54 that was malfunctioning. I plan to reuse its SSD in a Samsung MZ-7LE1T00 1TB drive for my gaming PC. However, according to Windows, the drive appears empty with no partitions, even though I suspect there should be some partitions. I've tried several actions: switched SATA cables, changed the port, used Disk Management to format, and ran DiskPart to create a new partition. I encountered an I/O device error when attempting to format, and I'm unsure if the drive is encrypted or protected in another way. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

In DiskPart typing "list partition" displays the current partitions. Check if anything is present and remove it before proceeding. There may be a command to clear or clean the disk, but use it carefully and confirm the drive you're working on.

If you don’t mind losing data, use Clean All in DiskPart on the correct drive. Avoid running it on drives you need, as it will fully format them. It won’t ask for confirmation—it will completely wipe the drive.

Run DLDIAG to clean the disk, then once the WRITE ZEROS is complete, open the Disk Management tool and format the drive to NTFS. Everything should work fine afterward.

Clean the disk 7, then attempt to create the volume. If unsuccessful, consider installing Samsung Magician to check for any issues with the SSD—it might be faulty.

I rely on Parted Magic for this kind of work and always suggest performing a Secure Erase.

It might be the case that the hard drive is faulty. If the laptop was dropped, the chances are strong that the drive stopped working.
