Hey everyone, I have a question. I cleaned my Asrock ab350m-hdv mobo with ear buds soaked in 99% isopropyl alcohol yesterday. It worked well on the GPU and everything ran smoothly. However, when I tried applying IPA on the board, it left a residue like dried water. Can anyone clarify why this happens? I tested it on a small area first, but after seeing the outcome I felt worried and stopped the process. The main concern is whether my mobo will start up or not. I’m currently waiting to buy some thermal paste, which is out of stock. I haven’t turned it on since the cleaning. Attached are some photos of your board. Thanks for any advice! It didn't harm your motherboard in any way. Likely some flux residue remains at the bottom or from the chemicals used to clean the liquid/foam flux after reflowing. After applying isopropyl alcohol, some of that residue dissolves and spreads with cotton tips. You can use this method, or for a cleaner result, try using wet towels or alcohol wipes to thoroughly wipe the surface—perhaps apply more alcohol on a larger cotton ball for better coverage.

Oh, I see now. Thank goodness it didn’t harm my motherboard. Maybe I shouldn’t keep using IPA for a while now—just brush off the dust since I tend to stress too much. Thanks for the help and the info, @mariushm. Have a great day!
