ASUS Z690 error code 00 appears to be an issue.
I created a fresh setup about a week back and am facing issues with either code 00 or D0. The book indicates a capital D for the error, but I’m not sure. There are no working Q-led lights, and the PSU only supplies around 76 watts during these incidents. I pressed the power button to restart, and the lights turned on but the system displayed 00. Sometimes the cooler fan fails to start while other fans do, and the whole thing hangs. Adjusting the cooler block helped occasionally, but reseating the CPU got me to BIOS and a boot, though it’s inconsistent. It randomly freezes after reseating, and the reset button doesn’t work when frozen or stuck on 00—I have to keep the power button pressed to shut it down. The CPU temperature ranges from 32°C to about 50°C. Any advice would be appreciated. I’m uncertain if I need to return or replace the motherboard or CPU separately. I purchased the components from Amazon, so I’m considering sending both back for a replacement or exchange. Any guidance or troubleshooting tips would be really helpful. What steps have you taken so far?
I'd thoroughly check the socket. It's only 1700 pins these days, I wonder if 1 has a little bend or poor pad contact. When you pull the cpu, clean it with some alcohol. Try not to handle the pad contacts on the cpu. And also you could look into the lga socket bracket to help prevent the board from Bending with the cooler screwed tight.
00 indicates the device is inactive or hasn't been posted yet (especially after powering up). D0 is a basic error code that appears early in the post RAM stage, meaning the GPU isn't involved—focus on the CPU and socket. Check for bent pins and consider using 99% IPA on the socket; many CPUs have worked after a quick spray. Before applying IPA, clean the underside of the CPU with 99% IPA. If you apply 99% IPA to the socket, wait about 4 hours, then cover it with a paper or tissue. For 95% or 90% IPA, allow roughly 4 to 15 minutes for drying. For the CPU, simply spray IPA and immediately wipe with a tissue, then let it dry in the gaps between the squares.
You've been troubleshooting several times and still facing the same problem. I double-checked the connections and confirmed everything was correct. Recently, I found out about issues with CPU bending and explored aftermarket brackets. After a recent shutdown, the system froze completely, so I checked the power supply. Removing it and testing with a different cord worked, but now the computer is starting properly again. I'm wondering if the CPU wasn't receiving enough power to boot initially. I might try updating the BIOS later, but I'm running low on thermal paste from all the changes this week.
