Asus Z590 Red CPU Light
Asus Z590 Red CPU Light
I have been having issue with a blue screen error That reads Unexpected_Kernal_Mode_Trap, So have spent the better part of a month trying different solutions to fix the Issue. I have done a bios update did not fix the issue installed new and old drivers for all components did not fix the issue ran hardware checks on my CPU,GPU, RAM, and drives no faults Replaced my ram and also tested it in different slots no fauts Freshly installed Windows 10 did not fix the issue Freshly installed Windows 11 did not fix the issue After draining the entire custom loop taking everything out cleaning the system that has been running fine since Aug 2021 and putting it back together I noticed something. Every randomly I noticed that the red cpu LED will come on for a split second then turn off and also there in my Corsair ique software it reads that one of the test points on the motherboard is at 127c. I am not sure if its a bug with the software or there is an actual issue with it. The computer still works fine playing games, watching youtube, watching twitch, but as soon as I try to watch a movie or something on Nexflix, Amazon prime video or Disney+ it crashes and it does this in any browser. Corsair 5000X case, MSI RTX3080ti GPU, Asus Z590A MoBo, 10900KF CPU, 32GB corsair vengeance RGB 3600mhz DDR4, 2x Samsung 1tb NVME SSD's, 850W EVGA B5 PSU. Custom watercooled.
Hi, if the CPU light activates, I recommend removing the CPU and reinserting it. If that doesn’t resolve the problem, consider purchasing a new CPU. If your motherboard is compatible with a 7th generation Intel processor, opt for an i3 model from retailers like Amazon. It will be affordable and you can return it once you’ve used it. Thanks!
I’m reaching the point where if I decide to proceed, I’ll probably just remove the motherboard and CPU and purchase new ones. Since the machine is custom watercooled, swapping the CPU is a lengthy process that can take an hour. Over the 15 years I’ve spent with computers, I haven’t encountered any issues with low-quality Intel CPUs, though this seems like a reasonable approach.
The blue screen error suggests a problem with your CPU or motherboard. Make sure the socket isn’t bent and try reinserting the CPU. If the issue persists, swap to another CPU in the system. Depending on purchase timing, both CPU and motherboard might still be covered under warranty. It could also be the board itself. Based on similar cases with other ZX90 models, occasional VGA or CPU lights appearing isn’t uncommon, but Asus reports it’s a firmware bug that usually resolves after updates—though your case seems to have a real problem.
My anxiety mainly comes from the idea of handling RMA parts. The situation feels frustrating too, especially since I’m unsure whether it’s a motherboard or CPU issue. Upgrading to a different CPU would be necessary for testing my theory, but since it’s custom water cooling, swapping one is difficult. After cleaning the system, I reinstalled the CPU with fresh thermal paste, and everything looked good—no bent pins were found.
If it was recently replaced, the best way to confirm would be to try another CPU inside it. You could visit a nearby store and have them test it if they have a compatible one available. The process will be more challenging because of the custom loop, so it depends on you. You might need at least a new motherboard.
Check the source of the heat on the MB. Determine if it's coming from the North Bridge or the South Bridge. For testing a replacement, it's recommended to take it to a nearby PC repair shop as advised.
Update your details. NB and SB haven’t been utilized recently. A Z590 lacks a north bridge and a south bridge—just a CPU and the chipset.
Check the hottest part of your system—CPU or PCIe—where your MB is heating up.
