I own a new Asus Z390-F gaming model that occasionally functions properly or fails to start. The Q-LED lights up the CPU, then DRAM, and eventually stops progressing. It may flash those indicators 2-3 times before giving up. I can manually reset the system repeatedly until it finally powers on. Clearing CMOS clears it instantly, but it’s a tedious process each time because I must remove the side panel on my case. Both methods only provide short-term relief. Once the machine stops booting, I have to repeat the steps until it works again. I can power it off and on a few times without issues, but eventually it fails. The issue has worsened from sporadic failures to complete breakdowns, now taking 3-4 days between incidents. I’ve tried reinserting memory sticks, using just one or the other, and even ran MemtestX86 for 13 hours with no errors. I also used the Ai Overclock Tuner in Auto and XMP II modes, but the problem reappeared after some time. Updating the BIOS from version 1302 to 1401 didn’t help. I disconnected everything except power and the display port. The only possible clue is that my memory modules might not be listed in Asus’s official compatibility database. My sticks have the model HX426C16FB3K2/16, with a close match HX426C16FB2K2/16, but not identical. Could this be the root cause? It’s possible, though I’m skeptical. The store Komplett offers a bundled CPU, board, and memory package, which suggests they’ve verified compatibility.
