ASUS Z170 SABERTOOTH MARK 1 shows orange light but isn’t working.
Hi everyone, I own this motherboard and everything is connected, but when I power it up, only the orange PWR LED lights up without any other indicators—no fan or RGB effects. I’m unsure if there’s a problem, though. My reset switch connector seems to have only 2 pins on my case, whereas the Z170 manual says it should be 3. Could you help me figure this out? Thanks!
The problem is clear—you don’t see the correct behavior. The remaining four LEDs should activate only when something goes wrong in one of the parts. The reset button has no effect on this.
Confirming pin placement for the power switch. Is PWRBTN# the positive side you’re using? Reference: System Panel Connector - Asus SABERTOOTH Z170 MARK 1 Instruction Manual [Page 48].
Buttons lack both positive and negative leads; they simply connect the pins without any directional significance. The orientation is irrelevant—only the LEDs are affected. You can also use a screwdriver or another metal tool to link the pins. The screwdriver doesn't distinguish between positive and ground connections.
Follow the manual instructions carefully to connect the RESET SW, POWER SW, and HDD LED correctly.
The position of the power and reset buttons is irrelevant. Just ensure the HDD LED faces the right way. For troubleshooting, you can also connect the powerbutton contacts to a screwdriver. Red = powerbutton Blue = Reset switch Green = HDD-LED (Note: this method isn't commonly used and may not work well with SSDs)
