ASUS X570-Plus supports dual M.2 slots for expansion cards.
I own an Asus TUF X570-Plus motherboard with two M.2 ports. One beside the CPU and another beside the chipset, protected by a cover. I intend to install identical 1TB NVMe drives in both slots. This isn't a RAID configuration. I've heard from several forums that both will perform at full capacity, while others claim the lower M.2 slot near the chipset runs slower—possibly undermining its purpose. An alternative is using the extra PCIe 16x2 and attaching an adapter card for the M.2. The first PCIe 1x1 is for the GPU. My question is: does the adapter affect speed compared to the second M.2 slot, which operates at half speed? I don’t have any details on whether this setup can truly run at full performance versus the PCIe version I’m using for OS and apps versus raw files and 4K video. What are your recommendations for this configuration? Thanks.
Both m.2 ports support Gen X4 performance, ensuring maximum speed regardless of your existing m.2 drive.
No online sources indicate any issues with the lower speed of one of the M.2 slots. The official specs list all devices as compatible with SATA and X4 PCIe modes.
