Hi everyone, for the ASUS Hyper M.2 X16 card, it’s best to install Windows on the NVMe drive itself. For a high-performance editing machine needing 8K support and RAID 0, placing the OS directly on the NVMe ensures optimal speed and reliability.
Do you require raid 0 for booting or saving data? I likely won’t use it here. How much space do you need? What kind of 8K video are you handling? My R5 can handle up to 2.6gbit, and today’s SSDs will easily surpass that in a single drive. Your CPU and GPU will be the main constraints before storage, especially with most 8K files. Storage speed isn’t a concern for me when working with 8K content.
Windows doesn’t have to be super speedy. It works well on a SATA SSD. RAID 0 isn’t necessary at all. The Samsung 980 Pro handles things quickly enough—I’d place Windows in the motherboard M2 slot 1, with 500GB cache in slot 2, 2TB on slot 3, and another 2TB on slot 3. If it’s still not fast enough, move the storage to the hyper card. The Firecuda 530 is suggested for that role, though Asus might advise installing Windows directly on the hypercard.
