Asus Tuf B450M with Ryzen 7 5800X and Gaming Plus II setup
Hello, your setup includes an Asus Tuf B450 motherboard with a Ryzen 5 1600AF. You're considering upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800X while keeping the old processor and using an Asus Prime A320m-k board. You're wondering if buying the Ryzen 7 5800X is feasible, whether the BIOS will work without updates, and if you should opt for Deepcool AK500 or Be Quiet Pure Rock 2 coolers for your new CPU.
I recently completed a new build and if your budget allows, I highly suggest considering an AM5 upgrade. AM4 will no longer support additional CPUs in the future. The upgrade options will expand significantly with AM5, offering better long-term value. The entry-level Ryzen 5 7600X performs better than the Ryzen 7 5700X—this was my exact scenario, and I planned an AM5 upgrade to ensure future-proofing.
Even with the 1600AF, it's best to use the newest bios. Companies only repair things when necessary. Definitely upgrade to the 5700X or at least the 5600 non-x.
Purchase a ghost cooler, offering better value and performance compared to the two you mentioned.
Thanks for the feedback. I already own two AM4 boards and a CPU, so I’m not looking for another platform right now. I’m planning to assemble two PCs. There aren’t many good options for thermal solutions nearby, and I value the appearance of coolers and the overall look of my setup. I haven’t changed BIOS before, but I might do it soon. I prefer a 6-core chip over more advanced options. I’m not a tech expert, but I’m content with the Ryzen 1600AF and just want to use these spare parts. They’re almost new and sitting in my room. I’d rather have a Ryzen 7 than a Ryzen 5 for better future compatibility. Anyone know if an Asus B450 chipset has a Ryzen 7 5800X? I’m only checking the VRM area, not planning to overclock or undervolt. The price difference between Ryzen 5800X and 5700X seems minimal, especially since my motherboard is set up for the latter. Any experience you have with this setup would be appreciated!
I refreshed the bios to support the Ryzen 7 5700x. I avoided updating multiple times at once. The Ryzen 5 1600AF was included in the bios for a short period and functioned properly. This motherboard performs well with this CPU; the VRM handles temperatures better than with the Ryzen 5 1600AF. Clock speeds match expectations, as confirmed by reviews and feedback from other users. They align with benchmarks from the Gamer Nexus review, excluding PBO and default settings. I installed a Deepcool AK620 digital cooler, but it seems unnecessary given the CPU's efficiency. This processor runs smoothly without requiring expensive cooling solutions.
