Asus ROG Z590-E with M.2 storage options
Hey everyone, just checked my setup and everything seems fine so far. I have the Asus ROG Z590-E with an Intel 11700k processor. I’m using two M.2 NVMe 4.0 SSDs—one 500GB in the top slot and another 1TB in the next one. The first drive is showing up properly, but the second isn’t detected at all. Anyone have ideas on what could be causing this issue? Also, I have a GTX1070 in the top PCIe 4.0 slot.
Adjust your graphics card's PCIe slot to support PCIe 4.0x8. With 20 lanes directly available from the CPU, it will default to x8, while the remaining slots will operate at x4, resulting in a combined total of x16 lanes from the CPU.
When dealing with Windows, if your primary boot drive is located on the second disk, you should launch the built-in disk management tool and set up a fresh volume there. If the drive remains absent in disk management, verify its presence in the BIOS settings. Should it still not appear, ensure the cables are securely connected and free from dust or debris. Confirm that your storage devices are compatible with the system. As Spider-Man advised, you might need to upgrade your PCIe lanes on the CPU. Remove the graphics card and test detection—if PCIe lanes are the issue, consider downgrading your GPU’s bandwidth to PCIe 4.0 x8. This adjustment usually won’t impact performance. However, if your motherboard can’t lower the bandwidth to your GPU, you may need to relocate the GPU to an open-end PCIe 4.0 slot (an 8x slot with an open rear access). If your motherboard lacks such a slot, you might have to forgo a second drive altogether.
