ASUS ROG GT-AX11000 compared to two ASUS RT-AC5300 Ai Mesh models
Hi Everyone, I'm currently looking to improve the Wifi situation in my House. Details: My plan is 1000/500 mbps. I live in a double storey roughly 290m2 household. All devices have wifi ac minimum. Unable to Run Ethernet cables between both floors. Only the top Floor has a Port for the Router. So i'm trying to decide weather to purchase a single ASUS ROG GT-AX11000 unit or 2x ASUS RT-AC5300 in a Ai Mesh Setup - buying 2 RT-AC5300's ends up being $100 cheaper but they don't have wifi 6. Any help would be much appreciated. Please also feel free to leave suggestions for any other routers below. (PS. I'm just looking to get the highest speed wifi for my situation - not concerned about getting 100% of my plan via wifi since my internet is free anyway) Thanks.
Your current environment is quite extensive. Are you concerned more about performance or data reach?
What about your living arrangement? Do you own or lease? If you’re leasing, things can be a bit uncertain. If you have structural issues like concrete or brick walls (common in construction projects), running Ethernet might be limited. However, you could still connect to the outside network. If Ethernet isn’t available, consider a router paired with an access point that uses a different frequency. This approach sets up two separate WiFi networks—one for devices and another on a different channel—to send data between the AP and router. You’ll likely face coverage challenges and may need more units than expected. Be sure to choose a mesh network setup with backhaul, rather than just repeaters. I think WiFi 6 won’t play a major role in the next few years.
