Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero USB connectors
Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero USB connectors
Hello. You're considering a motherboard and a Corsair 4000D Airflow case for your new PC. On PCPartPicker, when you select these items a notice appears about limited details. It mentions the front panel should have two USB 3.2 Gen 1 connectors—one Type-C and one Type-A. The ASUS site lists the Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard with USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports on the front and a section for internal ports including a USB 3.2 Gen 2 connector and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 connector with extra ports. You're wondering if the front panel ports can be used for the USB 3.2 Gen 1 connections from the case, or if they're separate. Please let me know if you have any experience with this compatibility or need further clarification. Thanks!
The board supports 2x USB 3, 1x USB Type-C, and 4x USB 2 on the front panel. The case features only one USB 3 Type A and one USB Type-C port, which is fine for you.
Sure, everything will be okay. My setup has four USB 3.1 ports plus a Type C, so I need two USB 3 headers. It seems the Hero doesn’t offer this feature, which is surprising since similar models at that price point do. But you don’t need them, so it’s fine!
It seems to be a USB 2 header near CHA_Fan1, positioned just below and to the left of the CPU. It isn’t labeled on the board or mentioned in the manual. You’re curious if it might be an unlisted option that isn’t properly documented.
