I possess this unit and from what I understand it operates smoothly. I don’t own any Thunderbolt adapter to connect to it, which is a major advantage but also a challenge since I’m new to this technology. After using the B550 Creator for a week, I haven’t replaced my motherboard in years, yet it’s performing exceptionally well! (5900x and 3080). It’s handling benchmarks flawlessly and delivering solid FPS in MSFS2020 with optimal settings. HOWEVER, installing drivers from the Asus page is still problematic. Perhaps it’s unnecessary, just an old habit when downloading and setting up the newest versions on the manufacturer’s site. In my BIOS, Armory Crate is active by default, and it has installed several related components on my Windows 10 Pro system. I’m seeing at least five processes or services in Task Manager linked to it. Checking Device Manager shows a "Thunderbolt™ Controller - 1137" with a driver installed—no error messages appear. The version listed is Intel® Corporation, 1.41.1054.0, dated 1/2/2020, signed by Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher. In the properties, there are entries under "Events," but I can’t extract them. It seems the driver is present and set up, yet the final line reads: “Device not started (nhi).” Under “Information,” it lists details like device ID, driver name, and version. It appears the installation succeeded but the system refuses to boot it. This could mean everything is configured correctly, but something is preventing the OS from recognizing it. Maybe the driver needs a different setup or a specific configuration step. I’m curious why Asus would include this file on the driver page for my model—there’s also a discussion on ROG forums suggesting to install chipset drivers first before trying Thunderbolt support. Despite the hiccups, the performance is impressive, and I’m eager to resolve this issue.

I haven’t found any Thunderbolt devices to test yet, but after speaking with Asus a while back it seems the Intel driver installer isn’t designed for AMD systems. They mentioned it on the B550 Creator download page without saying it was an error, but they hinted that someone might need to unpack the files and find a use for them. That’s pretty confusing. Still, they said the same basic driver should work with Armory Crate, and there appears to be a working Thunderbolt driver on the system. So? It seems reasonable. Anyone know if any Thunderbolt devices are compatible with these ports? The only USB-C device I own is my Wacom Cintiq Pro 16, which is meant for power and display input. I doubt it’s built to handle video, power, and USB data through a single port. It might be worth testing—it would save the need for that extra box. But I’m guessing it could require around 100W or more? I can’t find the exact specs now, but the B550 Creator probably delivers about 40W from its TB4/YUSB-C ports.
I'm facing the same problem with the Thunderbolt driver installation—it keeps triggering the Serial IO Platform error, similar to what was shown in the earlier posts. Unlike Dylanear, I don't see any Thunderbolt entries in Device Manager, HWInfo, or the BIOS. I haven’t reached out to support yet, but I suspect I might need to. When I connect my phone via the Thunderbolt port, it doesn’t receive power at all, so normal USB features are missing. Have anyone who had to install drivers successfully (even after trying Armoury Crate and manually installing AMD chipset drivers) found a solution? Also, does Asus support offer a downloadable installer that works with AMD?
I investigated further and confirmed everything is set up properly. Online sources indicate that Thunderbolt requires more than just a driver—you need the correct firmware version. For Thunderbolt ports, a BIOS update is often necessary. I found a "Thunderbolt Control Center" and checked the installation folder on my motherboard. Inside the Drivers directory, there was a Thunderbolt™ Software Installer.exe. However, it didn’t install anything. During extensive searches, I saw a suggestion to update the BIOS before proceeding. My current BIOS is 2007, with two beta versions available. I considered using a beta, but Asus now marks 2403 as stable and no longer offers updates. The EZ Update tool confirmed I was up to date in 2007, but didn’t provide an update path. After downloading 2403, I followed the installation steps: it updated the BIOS, rebooted, and the process completed successfully. Now I’m using a working Thunderbolt setup on my B550-Creator. Anyone with experience should share their results!
I encountered comparable issues. I recently set up two identical systems using Ryzen 9 5950 chips and an MSI GeForce 2070 Ti. I purchased a board tailored for the TB feature. My setup includes a 10Gbps Sabrent TB3 Ethernet adapter and a Blackmagic UltraStudio Express TB2 for connectivity. Initially, after updating the BIOS from 0403 to 2403, both devices installed successfully and operated normally. However, once I unplugged one device, it stopped appearing even after rebooting. In Device Manager, the TB Controller -1137 remains functional alongside the HSA and Toast Component. After removing drivers via Device Manager, I reinstalled them and the issue resolved temporarily, but re-plugging it ended everything. I've tried various uninstall/reinstall methods, BIOS updates to 2404, and even downloaded newer TB drivers (1.41.1094.0). Everything functions once, but stability disappears when devices are disconnected. What might be causing this?
Hi, same situation with this motherboard. I followed Dylanear's instructions to upgrade the BIOS to version 2403, but everything seemed okay until now. In the Advanced/AMD PBS settings, there’s nothing related to Thunderbolt—only Data Link Feature Exchange. I tried updating to the latest version on the Asus website (2407), but still no Thunderbolt support. On AMD PBS, it shows no Thunderbolt option either, and searching for it in the BIOS didn’t find anything. Device Manager also doesn’t list anything. I’m unsure if those settings were present before the update to 2403. Now I don’t know if I can revert the BIOS update or do anything similar. My external T3 hard drive isn’t detected on either port, and it doesn’t work with USB or Thunderbolt Control Center, which failed with error 0x80070643.
