These boards share identical VRM settings, so adding a high-end CPU like an i7-10700F wouldn't necessarily cause issues.
I haven’t reviewed these forums yet, so I’m not entirely confident about their VRM solution. However, based on what I see, it doesn’t look like the best option. It might work without power throttling. I wouldn’t suggest using this platform for B and H LGA 1200 boards.
Considering a move to Comet Lake could be worthwhile if you're aiming for an unlocked SKU with a Z board. The pro model, one of the more affordable Z490 boards, performs adequately, though its APE feature mainly raises the CPU power ceiling without real impact. It's worth noting that memory overclocking in H and B series LGA 1200 boards is problematic. For better performance, the Tomahawk offers a stronger build with 12 55A MOSFETs and can manage even heavily overclocked CPUs like the 10900K. Avoid B and H series boards if you're seeking a budget option. Comet Lake isn't the best choice for Ryzen processors.
It doesn't mean higher frequencies won't offer advantages. As mentioned, securing a locked CPU and a B series board isn't always the most cost-effective choice. Unless you're willing to adjust your budget and opt for a K with a Z series board, it might not be the best value.
I fully understand if it's the 10400F at 2666MHz, as that performance is far inferior to a 3600 with 3200MHz CL16 drives. However, B550 boards are currently somewhat constrained. Still, choosing another B450 could also be a viable alternative... :I
However, I thought B meant budget LMAO too. What I really like about the B460 board is the PCI slot... I’m left with two fully functional Wi-Fi cards! XD What about fitting a 10600KF into the B460? The VRM appears strong enough—it seems similar to the TUF version of the B460... :3 (you can also reuse the PCI Wi-Fi card and 212 EVO)
