Moved content to the CPUs, Memory, and Motherboards area; suggestions for video ideas can be shared here later. The physical connector is for USB, yet it transmits the PCIe signal. You connect a board with all available PCIe x16 slots using a USB cable. It operates at PCIe x1 speeds, which isn't a problem since mining happens on the GPU and communication back to the CPU is minimal—bandwidth isn't an issue and performance loss is negligible. Avoid using SATA connections directly into PCIe 6pin. It's interesting that these details didn't cause overheating or damage.
