Asus H87M-Pro board attempts to manage voltage for a PWM fan
Today I chose to install two Delta GFB1212VHG fans on my PC. They draw power from a PCIe 6-pin port, and only the signal wires are linked to the motherboard. The fan linked to the CPU header works perfectly, but the case fan runs at full speed because the motherboard doesn’t recognize the absence of a 3-pin fan and instead attempts voltage control via unused wires. I’ve already performed a CMOS reset, but it didn’t resolve the issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated, as it’s quite noisy. Edit: The BIOS doesn’t offer a way to manually set the controller to PWM mode.
PWM adjusts the fan speed by varying the pulse width. Spoiler: it changes how much power the motor gets.
It follows the typical 4-pin design. The main change is that each fan has two units, one for each hub.
You can adjust various fan-related preferences within the bios settings.
I couldn't locate any solution. Turning off Q-Fan Control and adjusting the profile didn't resolve the issue.
I understand you're not after this answer and prefer using the BIOS, but can Fan Control adjust chassis fan speeds? Yes, it does.
I'm willing to accept any fix to avoid the 70dB(A) noise from the fan. I'll test fan control and share the results.
The issue isn't resolved. Fan 1 is the CPU cooler, Fan 2 handles the chassis cooling.
