Asus G531GT gaming laptop experiencing unexpected frame rate reductions.
I own an Asus G531GT-BQ026T laptop, purchased 1.5 months ago, with the following specifications: CPU i7 9th gen 9750H, GPU GTX 1650 4GB, and RAM DDR4 8GB. Despite being new, I’ve experienced frame rate drops since acquiring the laptop. My graphics card is set to Nvidia control panel, and the laptop operates in high performance mode. I tested two older games – League of Legends and Sniper Elite 2 – to assess the situation. Sniper Elite 2 was chosen because the PC should run it smoothly on ultra settings without issues. I am utilizing Vsync to prevent screen tearing and monitor high temperatures. Typically, the frame rate remains constant at 60 FPS, but it frequently drops to 55-58-59, causing brief stuttering. These drops are not consistently tied to intense scenes like team fights or explosions. I’ve attempted driver removal using DDU followed by updating to the latest drivers and performed a factory reset, both without success. Reducing graphics settings did not resolve the issue either. The laptop is new and therefore thermal paste and fan cleaning are not options. MSI Afterburner measurements reveal that CPU usage remains under 20%, and GPU temperatures average between 50-75 degrees. While these measurements appear normal, a persistent issue triggers frame rate drops. I contacted Asus support via live chat and phone, who suggested standard solutions and recommended sending the device to technical service. Sending a new laptop for repair seems excessive, so I intend to explore additional troubleshooting steps before resorting to that option.
