Hey everyone, a few months ago I bought an ASUS TUF Gaming x670e Wi-Fi card with a 7950X. It worked for a couple of months until one day it wouldn’t wake up and the VGA light was blaring. I discovered ASUS mobos aren’t compatible with AMD CPUs, so I swapped it out for a MSI X670e. After that, my CPU stopped working too. I’ve got a replacement CPU now, but I’m still unsure if the issue is with the motherboard or just a missed BIOS update. My warranty just approved a new 7950X, so I’m hoping the fix comes through. My friends might benefit from upgrading, but it’s risky—should I stick with what I have or go for the upgrade? TL;DR: A BIOS update could help, but it doesn’t guarantee the board is safe.

The update notes seem to resolve the issue, but for extra safety you could install it without EXPO/XMP activated, which typically reduces voltage levels significantly. Would any internal components be affected? If a CPU were damaged, I’d expect visible signs on the board.

The Asus board appears undamaged since the failed CPU triggered the same behavior on the MSI board. I refreshed the BIOS via the ez flash button on the rear IO, and everything functioned as expected per the guide. It’s not a certainty, but it seems to be working fine now. I haven’t swapped in a new CPU yet to confirm.

This setup is designed to work out of the box. It’s not your responsibility for the defective product that was later patched. Similar problems existed in prebuilts too—everything was due to Asus’ decisions to boost performance.

You may test it on a different CPU, as the issue with CPU on Asus boards stemmed from excessive memory voltage on EXPO. However, EXPO must be turned off in the default BIOS settings; you need to enable it manually.

Absolutely, I agree Asus had the responsibility here. It seems they failed to meet expectations, which is why I felt let down as a buyer. I usually handle these situations better, but I was careless in not doing my research first.
