I adjusted the clock to 3300MHz, temperatures stabilized during testing, but boosting to 3600MHz isn't possible anymore. Both Intel SpeedStep and Turbo Boost are active in the BIOS.
XMP on the X99 / LGA 2011-3 setup had some unusual behavior. Upgrading to DDR4-3000 (or higher) typically raises the BCLK Strap to 125 MHz, which is expected. The Haswell-E CPU design and memory architecture/multiplier seem to handle this adjustment. Even with an i7-6800K and ASUS X99 Deluxe II, higher XMP speeds caused stability issues at 100 MHz BCLK. Many boards failed to support DDR4-2666+ with 100 MHz BCLK. The 125 BLK setting is fixed in the BIOS, not controlled by the XMP profile.
Execute with XMP profile and BCLK set to 125 MHz. Optimize CPU performance by increasing memory frequency. Apply CPU overclocks using the specified BCLK, and fine-tune CPU Ratio along with voltages.
I'll attempt that now. I'm uncertain about adjusting the voltage settings; leaving it on "auto" might not be effective.
Using default BCLK settings and no XMP, I was able to run my cores at 3600MHz for about ten minutes during a Cinebench test, though temperatures climbed into the high 90s. With BCLK set to 125MHz and XMP enabled, the CPU was throttled to around 3500MHz during the first Cinebench run. This situation left me puzzled about the differences in behavior.
The BCLK is configured at 125 MHz, and it seems the CPU Core Voltage is also increased. What value does the Core Voltage reach during Cinebench? I managed to achieve a full-core 4.0 GHz performance on my i7-6800K around 1.30V, but your i7-5820K might need different settings.
I neglected to track the core voltage during testing. However, a major concern is that both my case and CPU cooler are quite small, which limits my thermal performance.
