Hey everyone. First, my English isn’t great, but I’m trying to explain my thoughts about Windows 10. I just got a new PC and tried using an old original Windows 7 copy—sadly, it’s an OEM version. I stumbled upon a site (it’s a safe site, a Latin American Amazon, not sure about the seller, but seems reliable) offering a Windows 10 Pro license for just $54. They mention it’s similar to an OEM release. I’m curious—should I be worried about buying these copies? Is it okay? And if so, would it be better to get a fresh Windows 7 Pro install online instead of upgrading from Windows 10? Also, since I usually reinstall every six months, could this cause any issues? Thanks!

Join the discussion on Microsoft software swaps. Many users receive Windows 10 for free indefinitely after upgrading within a year of its release.

You could purchase a Windows 7 license on G2A at a reduced price, but the upgrade process doesn't function that way. If you upgrade before the end of 2016, you'll receive Windows 10 for free indefinitely. After that summer, the deal ends and you won't be able to upgrade.

Utilizing the Windows 7/8 upgrade path raises doubts about fresh installations beyond that point. Yet, if you avoid paying after a year and haven’t altered hardware or performed new installs, OEM versions remain a viable option. These often come with stricter limitations compared to the retail version but are significantly more affordable. For instance, I purchased Windows 7 Home (OEM) for £67.95 during my PC build—it matches the retail release except that switching motherboards would require acquiring an additional license. Some users claim they’ve successfully transferred their OEM license to a new board via the automated activation process, though this isn’t guaranteed.

You might encounter issues with an OEM Windows 7 Pro version when performing fresh installations. For more details, check the seller's page.

You can do fresh installs of windows 7 with the OEM license with no problem. HOWEVER!! If you buy a new motherboard you might have problems. I bought it from ebuyer as I could not find a single review on the website saying it is a scam/ripoff/used product like many of the Amazon ones. But this is a UK website so you should find one for Mexico. I advise finding a website where there are quite a lot of reviews (20+ ) and not a single one of them say the product key didn't work. (if there are tonnes of reviews obviously someone will have a problem so take that in to account) ( home | pro ) At this point I should put in a word for "software swap" websites, such as those you can find on reddit. I have never used these and never will. I believe you are getting pirated software, and the only difference from pirating it yourself is that you pay someone else to pirate it for you... I do not believe in piracy.

You're free to use Windows without paying, and Reddit offers support for that. I can assist too, though not through the official forums. reddit.com/r/piracy For those who prefer not to, you can obtain a Windows 7/8 license from resellers or similar sources.
