Assistance with VLAN setup
Hello everyone, I’m new to networking and just started working with Ubiquiti UniFi switches and AP recently. I’m a bit puzzled because my setup isn’t functioning as expected. Here’s what I’ve tried so far: I have multiple access points with two SSIDs—one for regular users and another for guests (which includes work devices like phones and tablets). Initially, I set up the guest network to share our internal production network using a policy in the Unifi Controller.
However, my DHCP server, which runs on a Windows machine with Server 2008 R2, is almost full due to the growing number of guest users. To fix this, I considered creating a separate VLAN just for guests. I’ve configured a Stormshield SN300 firewall with a VLAN on its internal interface (ID 100) and assigned it a static IP (192.168.100.201/24). I also set up the guest network in the Unifi Controller and enabled the “use VLAN” option in the guest Wi-Fi settings.
The final step was to create a new scope for DHCP management on the Windows server and enable DHCP relay through the firewall. Despite these adjustments, when trying to connect to the guest network, I couldn’t reach the DHCP server. I even attempted to assign a static IP on the laptop’s Wi-Fi interface but couldn’t ping either the firewall or the server.
I’m realizing that since I’m unfamiliar with VLANs, there might be an issue with my configuration. Thanks for your help!
