You should have reinstalled your Nvidia drivers after upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1. This ensures compatibility with the new version. The process typically involves downloading the latest drivers from the official website and installing them during the setup or update process.

You don’t need to remove the existing drivers first. Just check if they’re compatible with your new drivers and follow the installation instructions provided.

I don’t mind much, but I just don’t want outdated drivers reducing my frame rate by half.

Nvidia drivers offer a clean installation feature found in the Advanced setup area. It examines the system, removes related driver files, and then reinstalls the updated drivers. To transition from Windows 8 to 8.1: ensure all drivers are current, particularly mouse-related ones. Disable any A/V or security software before beginning the upgrade, as they may block necessary files. This step helps avoid complications during service packs or major updates. Using Microsoft Defender in Windows 8 (or Windows Security Essential) is acceptable and won’t interfere with the process. Proceed with caution if you’ve used registry tools or system tweakers that alter Windows files. Always back up data before formatting and reinstalling.
