You're looking to run two operating systems side by side. Setting up a virtual machine for Kali Linux is one way, or installing the OS directly on a USB drive for dual booting.

avoid a complete dual setup unless you're just starting out with a new distribution. As the Electronics Wizard suggested, begin with a virtual machine.
