When sharing over WAN, be extremely cautious to avoid exposing vulnerabilities. If using standard FTP, traffic isn't secure—consider switching to SSH. While I haven’t worked with FreeNAS directly, you might need tools like OwnCloud configured with FreeNAS or set up a no-ip setup combined with OpenVPN for secure VPN access. This approach would significantly enhance security compared to an open FTP service.
