Assistance for Tech Support in The Witcher 3
I've looked up various discussions and videos, but none have helped. I'm using an Asus Crosshair VI Hero motherboard with a Ryzen 7 1700. I've run the stock speed at 3 GHz and overclocked it to 3.7 GHz with 16GB RAM at 2400MHz and a 2 GTX1080 Ti in SLI with an 850W PSU. I've also lowered the GPU and video RAM underclocking by 20 MHz and 100 MHz respectively. Despite these adjustments, nothing seems to work. The BIOS runs at default settings, but everything is failing. I've managed to play several games in 4K resolution and SLI, but my PC frequently shuts down during intense moments. I've noticed others say the problem is with the power supply unit, but since my other tasks like Folding@Home and Blender run smoothly without issues, I'm not sure. The Witcher 3 keeps crashing, and my screen goes black abruptly without any error messages. I've reinstalled drivers and checked the Event Viewer, but no clear clues appear. The overheating reports are absent from my tests. I'm still trying to figure out what's causing this persistent instability.
Based on what you've collected, the crashes occur at a particular stage. Please check the game files for verification.
It looks like switching the game to window border mode resolved the problem for me. I've been playing for three hours with everything set to ultra at 4K and never crashed. If anyone can explain why full screen mode would cause a crash while window border mode wouldn't, please let me know.
