opt for quicker RAM speeds while the existing one functions as advertised for the AMD Ryzen 5000, which is expected to support B450 compatibility
Which brand does this board belong to? From what I understand, not every brand releases Bio updates for this.
He mainly requires a BIOS upgrade instead of a new motherboard. AMD has indicated that the 5000 series will work with b450 and b550 boards. As @mahyar mentioned, higher RAM speeds are preferable, though 3000MHz is sufficient.
In theory everything functions, but reality changes and we shouldn’t assume advice matches his current needs during an upgrade. It’s wise to wait and check if the Ryzen 5000 represents a significant improvement he plans to adopt, and whether the motherboard will still support it then. He might prefer a used but more affordable Ryzen 3000 instead, or the board could still back the CPU while lacking power delivery for his chosen tier. Remind him to save some money and stay patient—details may emerge, but certainty isn’t guaranteed right now.
Thanks a lot! I thought all B450 models would work with it, that's great!
MSI confirmed support for the agesa code on Zen 3 CPUs in their 400 series boards after a BIOS update to a beta version. Zen 3 will run on DDR4 memory. The capability depends on whether the vendor decides to release an update.
They plan to roll out the update, but it won’t be straightforward like previous BIOS updates. By phasing out support for older CPU models, they aim to prevent users from making errors that could damage their motherboards or CPUs. Although AMD will issue the update, many manufacturers like ASUS or GIGABYTE may opt out to avoid increasing the chances of hardware failure and negative publicity.
