I discovered my old Android device yesterday. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. I’d appreciate help with these issues: 1. Google apps aren’t functioning—any way to restore them? 2. YouTube doesn’t work in the browser; needs 4.0 or newer. Any solution? 3. The built-in browser struggles with modern sites on newer phones. 4. Spotify has no working version. 5. Rooting isn’t an option since it’s my first phone.

For devices like the A Galaxy S2, Note, or Galaxy Nexus, installing a custom ROM is straightforward because they come with unlocked bootloaders. With other models, I’m not sure.

Just adding a custom ROM won't help these apps because the phone's hardware is still quite outdated, even by 2011 standards.

Confirms presence of custom ROMs on the old cyanogen mod. It supports Android 4 with a custom ROM. https://cyanogenmodroms.com/e400/

It has around 300MB of RAM, but it could be insufficient for even a single Chrome tab, even with apps running.
