For a reason, I possessed a Windows 10 Pro key that I initially applied on both my current PC and server. After six months, the server shows its license as activated while my desktop doesn’t. I assumed the server had an unactivated copy, but it seems the situation is different. Fortunately, my unused laptop also runs Windows 10 Pro. How can I move the license to my PC? I searched online but feel lost. Should I reach out to Microsoft support after transferring it, or is it tied to my existing Microsoft account?

Frequently when you contact Microsoft Support claiming your PC has stopped working, they often turn it back on for you right away.

With Windows 10 and the anniversary update installed, the license must be linked to your Microsoft account. However, because you're using a laptop with an OEM key, it's unclear whether this setup still applies.

It isn't an OEM license, so I believe it should function

If it's a retail key and you haven't used it many times (and are using it only on one computer), you should have no issues transferring it. Even if you need to contact Microsoft to make it happen, placing the key on your server likely activated it automatically. If you don't want the server to re-activate it, keep it off there.
