I suggest using a clean installation method. Since the PC is running Windows 7, you can create a bootable USB with Windows 8.1 and format it as a new installation media. This way, you avoid any leftover files from your project.

rufus is limited to a single executable that you can delete later. After loading the ISO, set the preferences. It seems to support BIOS and UEFI, but during installation you should try installing via UEFI.

It also provided a choice to install via media creation. The 8.1 installer wrote the ISO file directly.
