Hello everyone, I’m looking for some guidance on the maximum CPU your GIGABYTE B450M DS3H can support. I found it during a sale with an R5 2600 and want to boost my single-core speed without exceeding around $350. Any suggestions? Also, do you know of a micro-ATX motherboard or CPU upgrade under $350 that still delivers a noticeable performance improvement? Thanks in advance!

You can reach up to the R9 5950X model, but you'll have to flash or upgrade your BIOS. See the Gigabyte specs page for details.

I would choose 5700x because the board struggles with higher voltages and can't manage 5900x or 5950x. 5800x3d is another viable choice but tends to exceed $400. Edit: it might support 5900x if you have a solid downcraft cooler.

Seconded by 5700X, the majority of B450 boards wouldn't be able to support R9 5900X/5950X. The 5700X offers the best value under $400 for this situation. The 5800X no longer makes sense, and the 5800X3D exceeds $400.

That suggests a Ryzen 5 5600 or Ryzen 7 5700X would be perfect. No higher specs needed.

Yes technically, but the high voltages will cause issues and either the system will stop working or the CPU will overheat severely. It's one of the least powerful B450 boards available.

For improvements the 5950x costs around $500 USD, based on a US budget of $350. Amazon currently offers the 5900x at about $340 USD—a downgrade with marginally slower cores, 12 cores instead of 16, and reduced silicon quality resulting in a higher TDP.
