Hello, welcome! I hope everyone is doing well. I’m reaching out for some help with my ASUS Z170-A motherboard. I recently installed a new motherboard and RAM, using a Kingston 8GB (KM0BW4-MID-S18257B1RH) DDR4 module. Everything boots fine, but the DRAM error lights keep appearing. I’m not sure if the RAM isn’t compatible or if there’s another issue. Since this is my first DDR4 build, I’m a bit confused. Pressing the DRAM button on the board doesn’t resolve the problem, and clearing the CMOS didn’t help either. I can’t update the BIOS because there’s no support available. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Consider placing the RAM in another port on the motherboard. Begin with the second port. If this doesn’t succeed, test the remaining slots.

Hello, I've already handled it—it performs the same action across every RAM slot.

I checked the RAM compatibility for your motherboard, but your Kingston module isn’t listed. The list might be outdated, ASUS support isn’t dependable, so it’s likely the RAM isn’t compatible. Here’s the link to the PDF: Z170-A Memory Qualified Vendors List. A friend of mine faced a similar problem with his ASUS board—no startup and only the ram debug light indicated an issue. We tested all slots and swapped kits, but the motherboard itself failed. After replacing it, everything worked fine. Hope this helps!

Are you referring to a situation where your PC starts up normally but the display keeps flashing? If it boots into Windows, it might indicate a software issue. This isn't a major concern. However, if the screen briefly lights up the DRAM indicator yet fails to start, that signals a hardware problem. The most effective way to diagnose is by testing another RAM module to determine if the issue lies with the memory. DDR4 RAM should fit your motherboard, so a faulty stick could be the root cause.

Thanks, I’ll see if I can secure a fresh RAM module. It was originally purchased from another seller, but they sent me a bench test to confirm it worked. The RAM I just got came from a different retailer.

I'm having trouble posting—it just flickers when I use Drm Led only. I'm planning to add more RAM next week, and since this is my first DRR4 build, I don’t have any extra copies on hand.

I'm trying to locate details about your RAM module. Could you share the speed in a four-digit format, such as 2133 or 2400?

the speed is 2400MHZ. quick question—do you think your LGA1151 CPU will work? you mentioned an old build, and you’re considering upgrading to a BIOS update on your motherboard. it seems like you have an Intel Core i5 6400, which is a different processor than the one you bought. I’m a bit worried about damaging the pins during installation, especially since you were a little nervous about it.

Based on my observations, the issue seems to be related to RAM or the CPU. It's also wise to verify that the CPU is properly installed.
