Recently, a friend bought a Skytech prebuilt system from Best Buy. It has been running smoothly for two weeks without any problems, but now it’s experiencing issues. Games are freezing and lagging, prompting a graphics driver update. This led to a BSOD and a DRAM error light appearing. After restarting, the PC boots up but remains unresponsive—no BIOS messages, no loading, just a blank screen. The monitor and cable have been checked out.

RAM troubleshooting didn’t help; attempts to re-seat, swap, or remove it failed. It seems the driver update may have caused compatibility problems with the BIOS version, affecting RAM, CPU, and GPU. The board appears to be an ASRock model, though the exact model isn’t clear from photos—only the brand is known. It’s confirmed to be DDR4, Wi-Fi enabled, and uses LGA 1700.

I’m unsure about the exact board type, but it’s likely a B660 variant. I suspect the issue stems from the driver update rather than hardware faults. Since no warranty was purchased, I wonder if Best Buy offers a standard 90-day warranty for diagnostics or repairs. That could help resolve the matter professionally.

Observe that these aren't error indicators. They indicate which stage of the POST (Power On Self Test) the board is at. If it halts on one point, that's the area to investigate first. This doesn't necessarily imply the problem is with that part, though it often is. The additional warranty typically covers other components or fixes viruses requiring a Windows reinstall from BestBuy. Issues with the PC are covered under a one-year warranty from Skytech, which applies to hardware. No drivers are loaded during POST/BIOS; if you don't see them, the fault is likely hardware-related.
