Assist in resolving the latency problem by providing necessary details to the carrier.
Hello, I’m a telecom professional currently facing latency problems while gaming. I’m based in Meddle East (Oman) and work for one of the internet providers there. They offer three services, but the one I use has a much larger ping compared to others—sometimes around 170ms versus just 40ms for the rest. This is especially noticeable in games like COD, MW Warzone, Fortnite, Overwatch, and more. The issue seems to be related to the provider’s servers, as the game already uses Meddle East infrastructure.
When I reported this to my carrier, they might not have fully understood my concerns. My explanation didn’t quite convey the problem clearly enough. I’m seeking your guidance on how to present this effectively so they can resolve it quickly and better support our gaming experience. Your help would be greatly appreciated to improve our understanding of the situation.
Latency usually tells you what the problem is. DSL/Cable, under 40ms might even be considered acceptable unless the server is in the same city. 170ms is more like 3000 miles away. So it could be explained by distance or explained by filtering/switching capacity somewhere between you and the game server. So if the game server is in the country, there's no reason to have 170ms of latency unless someone is tampering with it.
