Hey guys, so i'm building a new computer for my dad, and i need to have the exact same OS and program versions on the new computer. I was thinking of cloning the old hard drive, but it would not work since the new computer has different hardware right? Is there a way to get the exact versions of the software and os he uses or just copy his hdd, i dont know..

You're right, the drivers need to match the hardware available now.

Supported operating systems include Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, though some transitions may be challenging. Windows 10 appears to work smoothly.

Yes, it seems Windows XP is outdated and could pose security risks.

It's quite challenging. The system may not function properly with outdated hardware. A VM could be an option, though that falls outside my usual scope.

Yes, if the hardware matches the requirements, compatibility issues should be minimal.

There's always chance of BSOD because of driver conflicts. I haven't even tried change drive between systems with XP, and wasn't part of any forum back when it was mainstream OS. So I don't have any practical, or other, experience on how OS would react.

Despite the POSready2009 update, XP won’t be supported any longer in four and a half months. While I appreciate XP, it’s not practical to install it on modern systems these days. I recommend performing a fresh installation of a current operating system and guiding your dad through using the latest software.

Edit: Hmm, I didn’t realize this subject was that outdated even though it still appears on page one. It seems this section is a bit slow to update.

I understand, I rarely visit this place. Most of the time I jump right into the smaller sections.
