Hi,
I just installed a new system and am attempting to push the CPU overclock. The basic specs are: i7 8700K, ASUS ROG Maximus X Code, Corsair H115i AIO, Be Quite Dark Base Pro, Corsair AX 860i, EVGA GTX 1080 GFTW, and 32 GSkill DDR4 3600.

I ran a base stress test with RealBench last night without overclocking. The highest temperature recorded was 85°C for Core#3. This is quite high compared to what I’ve seen online. Then I tried setting the multiplier to 45, and with the H115i fans running loudly, the max temperature reached 91°C. The Vcore stayed between 1.344 and 1.408, and VTT remained at 1.016.

As a beginner in overclocking, I’m curious about the expected temperatures after OC for this model. Should the voltage be changed? And is there a recommended tool or guide to assist me through this process? Any advice or suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks,
Nathan

You don't require an all-core OC for gaming. With six cores, a 3-core setup at 5.0ghz works well, leaving the remaining three cores to auto or base frequency. This setup is achievable using the detailed tuning options in z370 and Coffee Lake. Remember to adjust the affinity of the OC'd cores so your games benefit from them. A great guide by the expert debauer is available here: https://youtu.be/CoUtA7DKXhU
