This could fit within the Storage Devices discussion, but I thought I'd start here. My setup includes an ASRock x370 Taichi with two M.2 ports—one PCIe Gen3 + SATA (marked as 'ULTRA') and another PCIe Gen2. The Gen3 slot is currently in use, while the Gen2 one remains available. There are attractive offers on M.2 SSDs, but I'm curious whether any drive will fit in the Gen3 port or if I need to be more selective. Overall, can this slot support storage? Thanks ahead.

The second position remains m.2, only a bit slower, so avoid getting a 980 Pro or MP600; go with the 970 Evo instead.

PCIe supports backward compatibility; ensure you're using an NVMe device instead of PCIe 3.0 x2. On the second slot, it will operate PCIe 2.0 x2, capping at 1.25GB/s.
