Asks for your phone number to log in even if you type the password right.
I own many temporary Google accounts. When using a Chromebook, I create these accounts and store files and videos within them. Occasionally, after logging in again, I receive a prompt asking for a phone number even though I haven’t used the account for a while. This problem occurs regardless of my usual location on my device. I remember receiving this message when accessing the account from another place. It seems I had to enter a phone number after typing my Google password, which then triggered the verification step. I wasn’t sure if a confirmation code was sent via SMS. I suspect that adding any phone number to these accounts might allow access, but I’m unsure how many numbers are permitted. I have at least ten accounts I’d like to regain access to, and it seems each requires a phone number now. I recall entering my phone number once before successfully logging in. I’m wondering if using the same number for all my Google accounts would work, or if there’s a limit of four per number. I want to be able to log back into these accounts without issues. I was surprised by the verification process after entering a phone number I already had. If I add another number and it works, should I use that as well? Also, I’m unsure whether having an SMS or Google Voice number would still allow me to access the accounts without additional steps.
The issue is that I never linked a recovery email or phone number to these Google accounts. When I tried to recover, they asked for a phone number even though I didn’t have one associated with the account. I’m wondering if I could use any phone number for all my Google accounts and it would work. If I need to recover multiple accounts and each time asks for a new number, how many times can I reuse the same phone number? I have a regular number and an international SMS number. Would I be allowed to keep using the same US number for recovery purposes? Or after a few attempts, will they restrict me from using it again? This part is confusing because they keep prompting for a phone number even though there’s nothing linked to that account.
I attempted to access several Google accounts that previously required a phone number for login. Even though I changed my contact information, some accounts still prompted me to enter a new phone number. Once I used the same number on other accounts, I received a warning about potential unauthorized access. It seems the system is blocking further attempts due to repeated or suspicious activity. You might want to try a different phone number and see if it unblocks access. If you're concerned about security, consider verifying your account settings or reaching out to Google support for clarification.
