Received an HP IQ770 with a socketable CPU. It includes an AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile tech TL-52 at 1.6 GHz (31 watts). Because it’s designed for upgrades, though there’s very little available data on this. Do you have any insights or tips on upgrading an older system like this?

Having worked with older systems can be quite challenging. The custom BIOS in these devices often causes compatibility issues when upgrading to a newer CPU, and updating the BIOS is usually not possible. It seems like this laptop features a large touchscreen, which likely restricts options even more compared to a traditional PC.

Accessing the system from a hardware perspective is straightforward. I’m able to swap out the CPU, GPU, RAM, hard drive, and DVD-ROM drives. There’s a BIOS update available (from version 5.02 to 5.15), but I don’t have any documentation explaining what benefits it provides.

This discussion is quite old, but I understand your concern. The system will restart using a different processor, yet it will display a warning about unsupported Turion chips with speeds over 1.6GHz.
